About the job
The Cost Accounting Manager ensures that costs for the company’s products are allocated according to corporate procedures and in compliance with accounting standards. Oversees the cost control systems and prepares cost accounting reports. Travel is not required. This position has personnel management responsibilities and reports to the Senior Vice President Finance – Chief Accounting Officer. The normal shift is 40 hours per week in the office, with periodic extended hours, as needed. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Directs and participates in accounting for inventory transactions by analyzing purchases, cost of goods sold, and adjustments.
- Ensures proper valuation of inventories in partnership with operations.
- Maintains standard costing including annual calculations of labor and overhead rates for the budget
- Prepares quarterly SAB (Revenue Recognition) calculations and corresponding journal entries.
- Files the semi-monthly federal excise tax payments and monthly reporting requirements of the TTB electronically, and files claims for federal excise taxes with TTB for products that require destruction.
- Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Coordinates Inventory Physical Counts
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university
- Five to ten years of related accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- CPA preferred
- Must have a strong cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical skills with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate complex processes
- Oracle cloud experience preferred
- General awareness knowledge of the ISO9001 Quality Management System requirements, company Quality Policy and your contributions to the effectiveness of the QMS;
- Responsible for being knowledgeable of and acting in strict accordance with the requirements of all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, including, among other areas, Food and Drug Administration regulations.
